"The King's Speech" is one of the best movies of the year. (It is no wonder that Colin Firth is winning all of this season's Best Actor awards.)

On occasion, TP and I will do non-eating activities together, and he noticed a nice theme during the film - the background reflects the King's state-of-being:

The first failure

The second time he fails his country

Lost and confused

The light bulb goes off

Not totally solid, but much bolder

(Go see it.)

Love It or Hate It?

Ugh . . . this is really difficult for me right now because:
A. This dress is kind of hot.
B. This dress is kind of slutty.
C. Gwyneth is being kind of annoying about this whole Country Strong business right now.

The Cove

Last night I saw the 2010 Academy Award winning documentary "The Cove".

It was an incredible mix of suspense, heart (of Ric O'Barry, especially) and environmental awareness.

Did you know that dolphins can make bubble rings - and play with them in the water?? They are such intelligent creatures, and there seems to be no sense behind the mass killing of them in Taiji, Japan. Not to mention the issues behind mercury poisoning. I always wondered why celebrities, like Hayden Panettiere (who is featured in the film), were always saying, "Save the Dolphins" - and now I know.

(Makes me dislike her a little less.)

"Good" Hair(?)

Chris Rock's new movie "Good Hair" is sparking discussions about the concept and pursuit of "good" hair in the African-American community.

Rock's inspiration came from a question posed by his young daughters: "Daddy, why don't I have good hair?"

It explores the issues of race and social standards of beauty (particularly in the media and the entertainment industry).

Relaxers ("creamy crack"), weaves (that can cost up to $1,000 each), and hair imported from India are just some of the secrets that are revealed in this documentary - that some are none to happy about.

Sex and the City 2 -- the second SATC movie -- is having an open call for extras. They're looking for fashion models, celebrity types, upscale socialites, fashionistas, urban club goers, gays and lesbians, international types (Middle Eastern, Arabic, Asian, European, British), and professional soccer players, among many more. (500) Days of Summer

Just saw (500) Days of Summer. Almost cried thrice.

Why is it that when a man pines for a woman it is sad, yet adorable, but when a woman pines for a man it is just desperate?

Recommendation: Go see it.
