VMAs (2009)

This year the MTV Video Music Awards was not the snooze-fest it has been in years past.

Russell Brand was smooth and politically-incorrect in the sleazy, yet charming, sort of way that only a proper British bloke can be.

There was a fantastic Michael Jackson tribute (by whom I can only guess are his dancers from the tour that will never be - unless you count the lost footage that will come out as a documentary on Oct. 30).

Janet Jackson performed by her brother's digital side.

Green Day rocked.

Beyonce shook.

Pink flew.

Gaga bled.

And, of course, Kanye cried.

Again.

Only this time, it wasn't about a Grammy that he "should have won" - but a VMA that Beyonce should have won.

Which she eventually DID win.

Beyonce graciously relinquished her spotlight to Taylor Swift whose own was so rudely robbed by He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named-Anymore (whom Kelly Clarkson has some choice words for).

Alright, now that we've put that to bed -

Let's get to the(ir) closets.

VMAs: The Gents (Worst Of)

This is an awards show, not Monday morning at the office. Fix your tie please.

I think this might be okay if the sweater wasn't so tight(?)

This is an award show, not Sunday afternoon at the yacht club. Put on a tie please.

Why are you famous again?

I have 2 carry-ons, 1 suitcase, and a set of golf clubs - room #1020. Thanks.

What a fashionable lady

This Shakespearean actor is looking a little rough

This choreographer is looking a little Shakespearean

This is an awards show, not a bar. Invest in a tie please.

I almost put this in "Best Of" just because it is so funny

Daisy Duck! I didn't realize we were at Disneyland . . .

You can never go wrong with a white-T. . . unless it doesn't fit.

Throwing up a sign and wearing fly kicks does not a fashion statement make.

Unless it's not a peace sign and you are hot.

Is there anything worse than being up-staged by the cartoon version of yourself?

Answer: Yes - wearing the cartoon version of yourself.

Amendment: Yes - being a complete douchebag.

VMAs: The Ladies (Worst Of)

Wait, a minute -

. . . maybe if I tilt to the side, no one will notice how hideous this is.

Are we at KFC, or am I seeing a little too much breast and thigh?

This is going to start a little gossip, girl - namely, that you are a space cadet.

No.

Cougars-R-Us

Lose the straps, lose the shoes - then we'll talk.

Oh, Alicia Keys - this outfit is just so unflattering in every way.

Fake-me-out American Idol Judge, I just don't like you.

A zipper? On the diagonal? I don't think so.

Lovin' the bumpit on top, not so much in the mid-section.

I kind of liked this . . . until I noticed the full-on medieval music concert scene on her skirt.

Fug.

Love you, Lady Gaga - but this just won't fly.

Fail.

Fail 2.0

B- for shape
D+ for print
F for appropriateness of venue

Taxi Driver, anyone?

I think she misread the memo that said color-blocking is in.

Amerie! You're killing me with the hair and the wings and the ankle bracelet.

Remember Jade Cole from ANTM?
She's an exotic, biracial butterfly - who FINALLY got her long hair. What.
